So what's Tim been up to lately?

What a couple of weeks its been!!

Last week, my wife and I woke up at 6am. Normally, I take our dogs outside and feed them while she jumps in the shower to get ready for work. While I was feeding the dogs, she appeared at the front door and informed me that we had no hot water. Ugh!

A days worth of tinkering and we came to the conclusion that our tank was dead. So then we had to get it out and buy a new one. This involved turning off the water for our whole house since there are no cutoffs anywhere. To shut off the water I have to turn off the power to our well pump and then release the pressure on the faucets.

We then discovered that nobody makes a replacement tank that would fit in the space anymore. Apparently, the company that made our original one sold its water heater division to another company who then discontinued our model about 10 years ago. Yay.

So for all of last week (Mon-Sat) we had no water in our house. We finally got a replacement tank but installing it in the old space involved removing a wall in our bedroom to make it fit and then rebuilding the wall. But we finally have water again! Both kinds!

Whew!

In other news, Gwen went to her first Easter Egg Hunt about a week and a half ago. The Nikon D90 went with us and we also took some portrait shots in a spot of wild flowers at our house. Here are my favorites:
I like how I was able to actually play with the depth of field here and blur the background. It may be a basic photographers trick, but it's new and fun to me. I like how it draws your attention to the subject more.

This face is just pure mischief waiting to happen! LOL

And I don't see how you can get any cuter than this face right here.

Now I may just be tooting my own horn here, but those actually look downright pro-fessional to me.(That's not a typo, I actually said it like two words: Pro. Fessional! ) :)

Of course, it helps when you have an adorable subject who happens to be very photogenic.

Comments/critiques are welcomed!!

  1. Really nice shots of an ADORABLE baby!! I love playing with depth-of-field, too, and I don't CARE if it's basic—it's FUN!

  2. What's really neat for me as a parent to watch is her facial expressions. Sometimes, like the middle picture, I just look at her and say, "Wow! I make that same face sometimes!"

  3. Tim,
Don't mean to post here but it was the fastest & easiest way...a little off topic, but I just "Break These Chains" by Everyday Hero just popped up on my Ipod here at work and I listened to it...that song rocks if I do say so myself! I was wondering if you remember that song and what you still think about it now. I think it's great...and that sweet-ass harmonic you hit during the middle break is still great!

  4. BTW, the more I look - I think the bottom pic is my favorite now...I like the expression in that one.
