Still with me? Good, let's move on...
The National Organization for Marriage recently started airing this commercial on TV stations and the web. I link to it here for the benefit of those who have not seen it and thus will have no idea what I am talking about. But I won't embed it on my blog because I think it is the worst kind of misinformation/propaganda/BS I have seen recently. Suffice it to say that I support Gay Marriage and these folks piss me off severely. (Their arguments also all sound suspiciously the same as arguments people used to use to previously defend banning inter-racial marriages and to defend the practice of keeping slaves, ie. "'cause the Bible says that's the way it should be!")
This is why I think some of the satires I've seen of this commercial are absolutely hysterical. Here are a couple of the better ones.
From funnyordie.com
And from the Colbert Report

I showed the funnyordie vid to a co-worker (who happens to be pretty conservative) and his response was laughter, followed a few minutes later by a serious, "I don't really care what two gay people do together so long as they pay their taxes."
Indeed.
As always, comments are welcomed. However, attempts to testify to me or "save my soul" will be summarily ignored.

You know, the problem with all the satires of that ad is that they could never be as funny as the original.
ReplyDelete"I'm afraid." OMG TEH GHEYS R COMING!!! O NOES!!
True, Paul.
ReplyDeleteYou know though I should add (since my wife said it sounded this way) that I'm not trying to bash religious beliefs. I really believe that people have the right to believe in any faith they choose. Where that right runs into issues for me though is where it becomes a means to oppress or deny rights to other people.
To be fair though, I only know one or two people who fit that category. The other people of faith I know aren't opposed to giving people equal rights.
